fox 5 is monitoring metro this morning. >> computer problems brought the storm a halt two times this weekend. an update on what is happening this morning as officials are trying to figure out what went wrong. a new battle brewing on the campaign trail. president obama refusing to apologize for questions raised about mitt romney's business background. fox 5 morning news continues right now. right now. it is monday, july 16th. we are taking a live look outside where you can seat sun starting to peek through. it has to be just to the left but the cameras moving to the right. it will be a nice warm day. i don't know if nice, but it will be warm. i'm sarah simmons. >> i'm wisdom martin. welcome to fox 5 morning news.

for that matter. -- storms yesterday and saturday as well for that matter. 94 in washington. 95 in culpeper. there you go. temperature in the mid-90s. >> thank you, tucker. time to talk to lauren demarco about what is happening on the roads. >> good morning to you. we have been taking a look at 95 because we have the volume building in stretchs up as you leave stafford. let's take a live look from sky fox. it is very heavy northbound heading past acquire aharbor so through stafford and again from triangle up to dale city. this is the scene here across the occoquan. it is moving well. it will be off and on the brake through lorton. once you get toward the mixing bowl, things looking pretty good. nice trip onto 395. traveling 66, inbound, we have some delays through manassas and centreville. this is looking at the

outbound, westbound 66 where we do have some activity there on the right shoulder. # 70 inbound slows heading towards 10 #. -- 270 inbound slows heading towards 109. no problems on the beltway itself to the left of your screen. the outer loop heading past university boulevard. that's a check of your fox 5 on-time traffic. >> thank you. metro has been experiencing some technical difficulties. over the weekend, a come pirate glitch shut down the system twice. >> this morning, the transit agency is taking steps to make sure there are no problems during your morning commute. fox 5's melanie alnwick is live at the metro headquarters with the details. >> i'm sure the last thing that passenger was want to sperches would be some of those 30 to 40 minute delays that happened to some passengers over weekend. now, metro says that no new problems have popped up since sunday and that was as of about 5:00 this morning. they do say there will be additional supervisors on hand at key locations just to be

able to respond quickly in case any of the computer problems pop up again. twice over the won, a computer malfunction brought trains on all five lines to a stand still. it first happened saturday between 2:10 and 2:50:00 p.m. and again between 12:30:00 a.m. and 1:00 a.m. on sunday. now, metro says the problem was in its rail operations control center, a system that allows controllers to see where trains are on a digital map and to remotely control switches suddenly went dark. each time the train were told to hold hair position at the next station but passenger delays lasted as long as 40 minutes. train operators used traffic lights alongside the tracks and speed commands were transmitted to each train's control cab. was radio communication between the train and the control center at all times and they also want to make sure people know all of the safety systems that keep that safe distance between the trains that awful those were

fully operational during these outages. technicians we're told are continuing to work to identify the source of the problem. that includes the rail and the it departments. at this point, we don't know exactly what happened and so they are still working to figure that out. >> thank you. some of another top stories, maryland governor martin o'malley is meeting with leaders from prince george's and montgomery countys and baltimore city today to discuss holding a special session on expanding gambling in the state. there will be more meeting tomorrow. lawmaker need to pass i bill expanding gambling in the state by august 20th in order to get it on the november ballot. howard county police or the hunt for the man accused of going on a shooting spree at an ellicott city spa over the weekend. 35-year-old tuan pham allegedly showed up at the spa where his girlfriend works and shot her

and her friend. both victims are still in critical condition. police say they found his car in columbia but it was unoccupied. police have not made any arrests in connection to an attempted robbery that turned into a deadly accident. an armed robber approached people in a car in fairmont height early sunday morning. the people outyou had soo the car were told to get down. car's driver got scared, hit the gas and accidentally drove over one of the people on the ground. he died at the scene. the gunman are still on the loose. loose. new this morning, prince george's county police are asking for your help in the search for a missing 75-year- old man. oscar harry washington was last seen yesterday morning in his daughter's backyard on woodmore road in bowie. mr.washington suffers from high blood pressure and also memory loss. if you have any information on his whereabouts, please contact prince george's county police. still ahead on fox 5

a church in boston is praying for the release of its pastor who was kidnapped in egypt. the 61-year-old was abducted along with another american tourist and their guide on friday. the american embassy in cairo is working with egyptian authorities to bring the americans home. also making headlines this morning, president obama and mitt romney stepping up the war of words on the campaign trail. questions over one candidate's past and calls for an apology being refused. we'll take a live look outside. look at the beautiful shot of the sun. looks pretty but not going to feel pretty. a triple digit heat index heading our way again this week. back in a moment with more on that.

in the upper 80s. we are warm, humid. 76 out at reagan national. 7 # in annapolis. much of the area here getting back close to 70. 70 at manassas and gaithersburg and dulles. so these temperatures will jump quickly and we should see afternoon high temperatures much hike yesterday right back in the mid-90s. then we're off and running. tomorrow and wednesday, our temperatures will be in the upper 90s. likely to be some heat advisory around here by tomorrow afternoon. sentinel sat-rad, had a little piece of energy come through yesterday. that brought us the showers and thunderstorms late yesterday afternoon and during the evening hours. we're not looking at much upstream here. we do have a little shower in southern pennsylvania. i think that will fall apart before it gets here. out to the west, just a lot of heat building once again. and we are on the eastern edge of that ridge of high pressure building out to our west. we're going to be hot here for the next couple of days. we do have a cold front which, as mentioned, will bring us some relief by the middle and end of the week.

class. this latest started with remarks by one of the cam ain't aides. >> either you the ceo, president, chairman of the board as you attest to the sec or he is telling the american people he bears no responsibility for that. those two things both can't be true. either you are in charge or you are not. >> he took a leave of absence from bain to go and run the olympics in salt lake city. he was on leave. so as the former sec chairman was quoted in the story about this, it is standard though to, while you are on leave, to sign those documents for the sec. he was still ceo and had shares but he wasn't responsible for management and that is the bottom line. >> president obama will be campaigning in ohio today. romney will be in pennsylvania tomorrow. we are talking more about this outsource is issue coming up next in business beat. find out why some people are saying it is actually a move that makes u.s. businesses stronger. >> we'll be right back. i'm barack obama and i approve this message.

it opened started offshoring jobs. he says he had left the firm. my point i'd like to point out is who cares? why run away prosecute outsourcing. it is something a company sometimes needs to do. in the mid 2000s, one study found while we had lost eight million jours overseas, we had created seven million jobs from foreign makers coming in to open plants in the u.s. a medical equipment maker some oregon realized, if we have the change made in china, we can cut veep prices on equipment to hospitals by 15%. that is good for the u.s. economy. it is good for our health care system. they took the saves and they hired more salesmen in the u.s. to sell more stuff. so outsourcing isn't an unpatriotic sin. it sometimes is a necessary thing of business and romney is not defending it. he is running away from it. elsewhere, credit cards. want to charge that in visa, master card paying $6 billion to retails are to set i'll price fixing case.

deadly flooding in japan. people say, it's been writtenning, quote being like a water fall. thousands of homes and roads were destroyed. soldiers were brought in to help get to stranded towns. morn a quart are million have been acted. some are being allowed home this morning but officials are warning that the danger is not over. tragedy the a sock are game in houston over the weekend. three people were electrocuted saturday afternoon when a lightning strike hit a tree they were hiding under. two of them died. a third man is in stable condition. there were about 300 people in the area at the time that this fast-moving storm hit. in the midwest, a severe does it really do that? drat is affecting farms and foot prices. farmers are worried about their livestock. this is a food shortage for farm animals. farmers will be out the feed within 30 days. there are widespread watering bands because of the dry conditions out there and big fines for home openers who water lawns or wash their cars.

fox. they are flying over 395 in virginia where they are starting to get pretty heavy. no problems right now heading across the people. things do start to ease up once you get up towards the pentagon. let's take a look at 59 as you travel. look from trafficland as you travel 95. there we are at 7100. still dealing with the accident activity off on the left shoulder. brief delay getting past that. also very heavy through stafford to head part aquia harbor and from triangle up to dale city. 66 heavy and slow here through manassas. and then through centerville. no problems leaving fair oaks in towards the beltway. outer loop of the beltway heading past new hampshire avenue heading past university boulevard here. >> thank you. if you plan to taking metro for your commute this morning, listen up. >> that is because the rail system has had some computer glitches over the weekend causing major delays. melanie alnwick is live with

the latest. >> reporter: good morning. metro says there have been no problems reported since early sunday morning. you may remember that there was significant track work going on all five lines this weekend but at this point, metro says it still does not know what caused this particular computer glitch. metro says it will have additional supervisors on hand at key metro station this is morning to be able to respond quickly just in case any of these compute are problems happen to pop up again t does d. happen twice this weekend. this computer malfunction brought trains on all five loon for a stand still. it first happened saturday between 2:10 and 2:50:00 p.m. and again again between 12:0:00 a.m. and 1:00 a.m. on -- between 12:30:00 a.m. and 1:00 a.m. on sunday. there is a system that allows controlers to see where the trains are. that suddenly went dark. each time, the train were told to hold their position at the next station but passenger

deadly accident. investigators say armed gunmen approached people around the 1200 block the oates street in fairmont height earlyson morning. the people outside the car were told to get down. the consider's driver got scared, hit gas and accidentally drove over one of the people on the ground. he died at the scene. gunman took off on foot. arlington county police are investigating a pit bull attack. police say two pit bulls attacked a man as he got out of his truck yesterday afternoon on south oakland street. the man suffered nonlife- threatening injuries. the police were able too locate the dogs after the attack and one had to be put down. arl now reports that people living in the neighborhood had called police in the past about aggressive behavior by the dog involved in yesterday's attack. president obama says he will not apologize to presumptive republican nominee mitt romney over a new round of attacks. at, rome know's alleged business dealings and the key campaign issue of keeping jobs here in the u.s.

a big area of high pressure out to the west will continue to build in and bring us some very warm temperatures around here for today, tomorrow and into wednesday. by wednesday afternoon, a cold front will move in. that could bring us a good round of thunderstorms and then some cooler air for the end of the week. get ready for hot temperatures here to stay for a couple of days. 494 today, mostly sunny, hot. couple of afternoon showers a possibility. maybe a thunderstorm. best chance of that will be well south of the city. winds out of the west at five to 10. 76 the overnight low. here is the five-day forecast and again, we're doing a little mini heat wave this week. 94 today. close to 100 on tuesday and wednesday. look out. i think we'll have heat advisories around here for the day tomorrow. and the good news is the last time the heat lasted 12 days. this one will only last four days. by thursday and friday, highs back into the mid- and upper 80s. i don't -- i think friday is
